The story is set against the backdrop of the troubled Apartheid years and leads up to the 1994 elections. It tells the story of three South Africans caught up in the turmoil which surrounds them. Steph is a white Afrikaner soldier deluded by the lessons of his upbringing and indoctrinated by a racist army, who carries out attacks on black insurgents in the border region. While he is away his girlfriend Emma becomes close to Joseph, a black co-worker at the cabaret venue where she dances and he introduces her to his world. While the fires of civil war rage in the townships, Emma and Joseph manage to find common ground in a forbidden friendship, which transcends the racial hatred that is around them. |
